OSG

CCAST will soon be joining the Open Science Grid (OSG) .  OSG is a Consortium which facilitates distributed (mostly high-throughput) computing and which aggregates power of tens of thousands of computers, running Linux operating systems, scattered around the globe.  OSG allows any US researcher to gain opportunistic access without an allocation to thousands of individual nodes. Since OSG jobs do not span nodes, it is most appropriate for serial and small scale MPI jobs, but it can handle very large ensembles of such jobs. In 2017, over 100M core hours were served to opportunistic jobs.

NDSU researchers can gain access to OSG today through the OSG Connect method. We have begun construction of an OSG gateway which will provide a more seamless, single point of access to OSG and CCAST resources. We anticipate other regional and national scale resources being added in the future as other agreements are made. Through CCAST participation and opportunistic sharing out of its resources to OSG, NDSU researchers will be able to access compute cycles on the OSG network and use them in their work.

Please visit this page often for updates on CCAST’s integration with OSG.
